Our Slaughter Practices

humane slaughterThe slaughter of our animals is as important to us as the life of our animals.
We are totally transparent about the way they are slaughtered so you can understand our farming process, from farm to fork.

That’s why we work with abattoirs that adhere to best industry practice and operate on small family farms.

Our red meat is slaughtered at Stillman’s in Taunton, Somerset.

Stillmans’ was established in 1935, and all animals slaughtered here are done so calmly and efficiently. The cattle are stunned with a captive bolt, rendering the animal immediately insensible to pain, before being bled.

All our poultry is slaughtered at Castlemead Poultry near Radstock, Somerset.

Castlemead is a family farm and has a specialist poultry abattoir.
All the poultry are electrically stunned, rendering the bird immediately insensible to pain, before being bled.

For both abattoir sites, the slaughter of the poultry is overseen by a government vet who is also responsible for declaring the meat fit for human consumption.
